Indoor Geolocation Using FCDMA Pseudolites: Signal Structure and Performance Analysis

چکیده
The signal structure performance of a direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) code division multiple access (CDMA) frequency division multiple access (FDMA) pseudolite indoor communication and localization (geolocation) system is presented and discussed in this paper. The signal structure of a DSSSFCDMA (or C-CDMA) pseudolite indoor geolocation system appears to elegantly solve the near-far problem when subject to a slowly varying frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channel with additive white Gaussian noise and Doppler shift, which is the main obstacle of a DSSS-CDMA pseudolite indoor geolocation system at roughly equal transmitter and post radio frequency (RF) receiver complexity. Based on our theoretical analysis and simulation results it appears that FCDMA or (C-CDMA) signal structure may be a suitable candidate for indoor geolocation to achieve 3-D centimeter level position accuracy and 3-D centimeter-per-second level velocity accuracy 99.9% of the time.

In this paper we use UWB measurements for bandwidths up to 3GHz to present a framework for statistical modeling of the indoor radio channel propagation characteristics that are pertinent to precise indoor geolocation using time-of-arrival (TOA) estimations. Accuracy of indoor geolocation systems relies on the strength and TOA of the direct path (DP) in the channel profile. Based on UWB measurem...
متن کاملA Testbed for Real-Time Performance Evaluation of Indoor Geolocation Systems
Recently, there has been an enormous growth of interests in geolocation applications that demand an accurate estimation of the user’s location in indoor areas. The traditional geolocation system, GPS, which was designed for being used in outdoor environments, does not perform well in indoor areas, causing frequent inaccuracies in location estimation. Therefore the need for more accurate positio...

A novel empirical approach is presented for modelling the path loss behaviour of the direct path (DP) between the transmitter and receiver, which is important for time-of-arrival-based indoor geolocation coverage characterisation. Using ultra wideband (UWB) measurements in four sites and three ranging scenarios, pathloss models at 500 MHz and 3 GHz system bandwidths are provided, centred on 4.5...

Introduction: Emerging indoor geolocation systems use either geometric techniques [1, 2], or pattern recognition algorithms [3, 4] to locate a user. This is done in two stages. The first stage is to observe some characteristic of the transmitted signal, such as received signal strength (RSS), or delay (TOA) to derive location metrics. The second stage is to feed these metrics into a geolocation...
